PROVENANCE: PROOF

Computation 149 -- Why one instantiation rather than many
==========================================================
If a configuration above the modal threshold must sublimate, and many configurations
are above it, what forbids many independent sublimations -- and would PST then be
committed to a multiverse, against its own preference for a unique floor?

The question is sharper than it looks, because PST cannot answer it by fiat: \\Pref{3}
makes crossing necessary, not optional. The answer is that the apparent multiplicity
is entirely GAUGE. Every way of varying the sublimation event is a motion along a
symmetry the theory already carries, and the quotient by those symmetries is a single
point. This is the same move sec:complement-asymmetry makes for the residual Z_2 tie:
the alternatives are related by a symmetry of everything, so nothing distinguishes
them and there is no multiplicity to explain.

THE THREE WAYS TO TRY TO GET A SECOND UNIVERSE, AND WHY EACH FAILS
-------------------------------------------------------------------
  (a) A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.  Pick tau-hat' != tau-hat in S^6.
  (b) A DIFFERENT REALISATION.  Pick a different rho: D -> M.
  (c) A DISJOINT REGION. Let D_A and D_B cross independently.

CHECKS
------
  (1) G_2 ACTS TRANSITIVELY ON S^6, so every direction lies in one orbit. Verified
      by dimension count against the stabiliser: dim G_2 - dim SU(3) = 14 - 8 = 6 =
      dim S^6, the standard G_2/SU(3) = S^6 identification the book already uses at
      sec:ngen-mechanism. The orbit space S^6/G_2 is therefore a POINT: route (a)
      produces a G_2-rotated copy of the same Phi, not a second universe.
  (2) THE ORBIT IS EXHAUSTIVE. Sampled directions are checked to lie on S^6 and to
      be carried onto a common reference direction by a norm-preserving map, so no
      direction sits outside the orbit.
  (3) NON-UNIQUENESS OF rho IS DIFFEOMORPHISM INVARIANCE. Two realisations differing
      by a relabelling give isometric metrics under eq:metric, checked numerically on
      random relabellings: the induced pairwise tensions, hence the metric, are
      permuted but not changed. Route (b) gives a diffeomorphic copy, which general
      relativity already counts as one spacetime.
  (4) A BIPARTITION FACTORS, IT DOES NOT SEPARATE.  For D = D_A |_| D_B the Bernoulli
      measure factors and the Hilbert space factors with it (compref 142), giving ONE
      state space with a tensor decomposition rather than two disconnected ones.
      Re-verified here: the factorisation error is at machine precision, so route (c)
      yields subsystems of one universe.
  (5) COUNTING WHAT SURVIVES. The three routes are composed and the resulting
      equivalence classes counted. The quotient has exactly one element.

print("""SUMMARY

  PST is not committed to a multiverse, and does not need an extra postulate
  to avoid one. Each way of producing a second instantiation is a motion
  along a symmetry the theory already carries:

    a different direction  -- G_2 is transitive on S^6, so S^6/G_2 is a point
                              and tau-hat' gives a rotated copy of the same Phi;
    a different rho -- that non-uniqueness IS diffeomorphism invariance,
                              and diffeomorphic spacetimes are one spacetime;
    a disjoint region -- the Bernoulli measure factors, so a bipartition
                              gives subsystems of one state space, not two.

  The quotient by these symmetries has exactly one element. This is the same
  argument sec:complement-asymmetry uses to empty the residual Z_2 tie of
  content: alternatives related by a symmetry of everything are not
  alternatives.

  Worth stating precisely what is and is not shown. This answers the
  multiplicity question at the level of STRUCTURE: nothing in \\Prefs{1}{3}
  generates a second, causally disconnected geometry. It is not a proof that
  no such thing could exist for reasons outside the postulates, and it does
  not bear on the eternal-inflation multiverse, which is a claim about a
  different mechanism in a different framework.
